An Early Hallowe'en!

Elphaba - for an early Hallowe'en! There are two versions, one pink and one green. This is the 'green' one. Maybe I should have given her ruby slippers, but in the book they are silver.

Edit: Process gif here, if anyone is interested: ELPHABA I used initial ref for the pose, the hands (my own!), the moon, and a slight texture on the tree and branch.

Arabian Nights

Well, finally I have something to submit!
I just wanted to draw a pretty woman dancing, and belly dancers are always fun to draw. And there's something about drawing twirling fabric that I love...

Pin-Up Calendar Submission Guidelines

Hello Again Everyone!

I've gotten really good feedback about the calendar, so I'm going to go ahead and say that this plan is a go. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, check out the previous post.

In order for the calendar to be ready for Christmas, we're going to have a cut off deadline at November 30th. Please, if you can, have your pieces in before then, as I'd like to get started on layout right away.

Here's the details for submissions:

1. Submissions for the full page of the calendar should fit 11 x 8.5 inches (27.94 cm x 20.32). (Note that this layout is horizontal, please!)

2. Other artwork can be submitted for small illustrations in the calendar section, to be used as overlays and stuff, or to decorate holidays. There is no size requirement for these!

3. Art doesn't need to be created for this, feel free to submit old work as long as you own the copyright for it!

4. Please send hi-res versions to my email, daestwen at gmail. Please make sure they are at *least* 150 dpi for the printing size - 300 dpi is better, but I understand if old work doesn't fit this requirement. File format can be jpeg, png, tiff or psd - please no pdfs, as I can't edit them to put them in the layout. You may also post the work here on the blog (even it is old) so people have a good idea what might be in it!

5. Nearing the deadline, I'll make a post with thumbnails of everything that is going in it. If there are lots of entries, I might open it up for a vote, but we'll see how much work we get.

6. Have fun, and pass the word!

edit: When submitting, please let me know what months you're interested in having your work show up, and why! Example reasons: "My birthday is in December so that would be the best month" or "My piece is winter themed, so Dec, Jan or Feb would be best".

New Banner and Pin-Up Calendar!

Hey everyone!

First of all, congratulations and thanks to Guido (yoitisi) and Pat (smugbug) for their entries to the banner contest being chosen! You can check out the awesome new banner now. :D

In other news!

I've been chatting with a few of the other artists here and we're thinking about doing a Not Your Father's Pin-Up Calendar for Charity*.

*lame name not finalized!

Basically, our idea was asking you lovely folks to submit either already-made art, or to create new art, for a 2011 calendar featuring lovely ladies. The calendars would be produced through a print-on-demand site (probably lulu.com but I'm exploring other options right now as well) and all profits would be given to Pink Ribbon International, a non-profit international charity that raises money for Breast Cancer awareness and research.

We felt that a Breast Cancer Research charity was a really good fit for Not Your Father's Pin-Up, though we're also considering (If any of you are interested) in doing a male pin-up calendar and giving the profits to a prostate cancer charity.

Right now we're just trying to figure out who's interested in participating, so please either comment here or message me on twitter, or email, etc, if you're interested or have questions, etc.

We were thinking, for now, not to generate any particular theme, but maybe if we can have a streak of pink or pastel colours run through the calendar, that would be nice. :]

EDIT: If you're interested, please check out the submission guidelines!

Pin-Up Artist Spotlight : Serge Birault

Hello everyone!

You probably already know him from Imagine FX, but I thought I'd bring your attention to some gorgeous pin-up work if you hadn't seen it yet!

One of the neat things I'd like to point out is that he has lots of in-progress shots and short tutorials for his pin-ups on his blog, PapaNinja. I especially recommend checking out how he works with ref to get those awesome realistic details. Go check it out! You can also take a look at his website, or find him on deviantart.

I've given you a few examples here, but trust me, you'll want to go look at some more of his work!

As you can tell, I am loving the tentacles. :] The last image here was commissioned for my gorgeous friend Rosie, so make sure to go check out her website as well!

Sunrise

This one was started for the Character of the Week on CA, but thought I'd post it here instead. I kind of rushed it a bit as another deadline has reared its ominous head, so will probably come back to it. Nudey bits! :o)

Pitgirl from Monday Night Combat

Plug; Monday Night Combat is one of the best multilpayer games out there right now. For a measly $15 you get a deep mix of tower defense, 3rd person shooter and class based team game. Check out some vids on youtube and give the demo a shot on the 360 arcade.

This is one of the background characters, Pitgirl. Totally infatuated with the game (and her I guess ;P) so I had to draw something up.

Lollirobofrankenbride

I think I've finished this, so here it is.  If it's good enough to enter into the contest, then I guess I'll throw her in.  She's part of a series, btw.

Not your father's Pin-up!

Finally had some spare time to work on something for the contest! Not sure if anyone else did anything for it, so I hope I'm not going to win this one by default D:

A little bit o'silliness

Quick little paint done for Sketchoholic Weekly Challenge 4 - Disney/Pixar Pin Up

What can I say...flowing white beard, little blue briefs - magic happens.

As I said, a bit o'silliness for giggles.

Not Your Father's Pin-Up Contest!

Hello Everyone!

Sorry for the silence, I've been busy, and I can see everyone else has been too!

I've been thinking about the blog and I think we need a banner/logo with a pretty pin-up on it, but how to choose the pin-up?

So, I thought a fun way of finding a pin-up girl to use in our banner would be to do a contest for it!

I'll be offering a prize to the winner - the book "Gil Elvgren: All His Glamorous American Pin-Ups". It's not a huge prize but depending on how the contest goes I might be inclined to add more incentives to the pile and offer some second place prizes and such!

So here's the rules!

1. Just work for this contest, please! No previously created stuff. Something playing with the title of the blog would be awesome but not necessary!

2. Obviously you retain all rights to your work and we're not going to use it commercially, we just ask that you please let us use the image for the banner! we'll put your name on the banner too!

3. If you're already part of the blog, just post the entry and make note that it's meant as an entry into the contest.

4. If you aren't part of the blog, you can leave a comment here with a link to the image.

5. You can make as many entries as you like!

6. Please submit all entries by September 30th!

Thanks everyone! Let's try to get some life back into this blog, huh? :]
